maat is the new museum of art, architecture and technology,
in the district of belém, in lisbon, on the bank on tejo’s shore.
the museum created a new public space,
capable of integrating itself in the city. the roof can be crossed.
is a public place, like a square,
an arena or a theatre,
but it’s also a viewpoint on the city projected
into the landscape.
from here portuguese explorers
set out to discover new worlds.
the volume of the museum emerges from the ground,
almost as a rock that offers
shelter to art, in a large, internal exhibition space.
the walls and floors stand out from the black ceiling.
the lighting system is fully integrated
and it has been developed to answer
to every architectural requirement:
light appears in space
following the movements and volumes of shapes and structures,
is designed from the cracks in the walls and ceiling.
the openings were made
using a curved 094 system
section by section, following the elliptical traces of the interior space.
this system also incorporates the air conditioning and trasparenze kit.
emergency lamps are designed by peter zumthor.
in this project the light is a materic part of the built.
108 references were identified to adapt to the radius of the walls, for a total length
of 530 linear metres, each part was numbered
and assembled at a certain point on the ceiling:
the family of eco track,
able to adapt to any exhibition setting
that a museum of contemporary art can offer,
has been used to ensure the best light output.
the use of high quality light sources, with ra 98 and r9 98,
with a power from 30,5W and luminous flow a 3000lm,
the system guarantees the maximum
colour rendering, very low maintenance costs,
enormous flexibility of light.
to illuminate the central exhibition space,
the bacchetta magica suspension‘s
gives a homogeneous light:
the contrast between the light system
and the black ceiling makes it look like
the lights are floating in space.
a new challenge has arisen for the outdoor:
in the raised part of the museum, the roof has a continuous handrail,
but the structured shape of the soil
prevented the use of a linear light source to illuminate the handrail,
so a new product was developed, the m18.
