Viabizzuno, the factory of light founded in 1994, made of design its credo, its job and its mission: designing -- a term from latin proiectare that means ‘to throw forward’ -- represents the way to counter chaos in the world. thus, in 2018, the company chose to introduce on occasion of light+building, from april 12 to april 22, in milan, in via solferino 18, the knowledge district, which restores balance through an intertwining of knowledge bringing light to the service of humankind. architects, artisans, lighting designers, business people and people driven by a variety of different reasons, pass the walls, invited in by the narrating wall showing dynamic images, a tale of the history of Viabizzuno and its light, here in display in its many forms: bamboo, roy tavolo, sul sole va, amp, maria, n55 tavolo, mon amour, scatole della luce... welcoming them within the theater district where a purple curtain reveals a mensolona system that puts on the stage a choreography of items showing Viabizzuno’s journey. travelers here can find a space where to stop, rest and contemplate the garden of colors, where the A1 system wired with n55 spotlights illuminate the flowers, enhancing their chromatic hues. the quality of the light is ensured through the tm-30 method, which assesses scientifically it over a sample of 99 colors, calculating them on two different indexes: Rf, color fidelity index, and Rg, color gamut index. the paper flowers are small italian artworks that render the colors of the visible spectrum. the garden is protected by four towers: the tower guarding architecture, the tower guarding business, the tower guarding work and the tower guarding lights of amazing beauty. inside them, in the cozy interiors developed on three floors, Viabizzuno’s light shows how it can meet the varied needs of architects, design studios, light designers, international fashion houses, institutions, museums, factories and public agencies: by demonstrating its ability to face any type of project. in the first tower, architects and light designers can review the various optical effects installed on the n55 system – classic, decorative and technical – placed on men sole along with inté luminaires. in the tower guarding business, sul sole va lighting fixtures cast light on the tables on the ground floor, designed by the architects neri&hu and the result of Viabizzuno’s craftmanship in the processing of brass and leather, while the third floor is characterized by a composition of the 13° angolo. in the tower guarding the work, the excellent light quality is provided by the amp luminaires, designed in 2017 in cooperation with the architects of the david chipperfield architects studio and the designers of the studio arup, guaranteeing the wellbeing of everyone working in it. in the last tower, the refined details of sempre mia reflect the light next to the poltronapoltrona on the ground floor, filling everyone’s gaze with great beauty. on the upper floor, the semprepronti furnish the bedroom sempreio, semprepresente. at the end of the garden of colors stands the palace of knowledge where travelers journeying from afar are welcomed by Viabizzuno’s hospitality. only the bravest can climb to the top floor, through staircases lit by the n55 sospensione, to the apartments of the master embellished by the presence of two fair maidens: da ma colonna and da ma sospensione. in the district of knowledge, the manuale della luce 03 is introduced for the first time, a volume that holds all the secrets of Viabizzuno’s knowledge. Viabizzuno designs, produces, researches and innovates with craftsmanship. it imbues its new designers with the strength of its philosophy ‘progettare voce del verbo amare’: a blank page ready to welcome new challenges and unique tailor-made designs. you see things that exist but fail to ask yourself why, I dream of things that do not exist and I say why not. Viabizzuno becomes a philosophy of life, a way of thinking for architects and designers all over the world to follow, an image within which to identify oneself. observing, observation first and foremost, is understanding, absorbing knowledge and experience to store up and make one’s own: in Viabizzuno a process is triggered of continuous growth made up of intuitions and concatenated deductions. listening to the location, an important element of life and of the design. we must learn to catch what nature and space give us: sounds, colours, traces, images, words, needs. for years Viabizzuno has demonstrated how light can blend with architecture and make itself available to the people that live it. the light fitting disappears to make way for light that integrates with the architecture or that becomes a technical element, a shape, a luminous sculpture, a timeless iconic object unfettered by fashion. we want to bring our way of thinking, our knowledge and our work into the world, our ideals and our craftsmanship, our innovation and our poetry, always faithful to a consistent and high quality made in italy design, made up of talent, the ability to dream, but also to adapt with purpose and imagination. a man who works with his hands is a labourer. a man who works with his hands and ingenuity is a craftsman. a man who works with his hands, ingenuity and heart is a designer. we must believe in our italian character, and be willing to stand up for it.
