manifesta, le otto regole di luce
palermo dicembre 2018
Viabizzunoscuola
teatro garibaldi, palermo
we’re at the heart of the old arabic kalsa district. the garibaldi theatre has been closed for decades, ruined, without a roof. finally it was restored and returned to the city. here, the biennale nomade of manifesta 12 has set up its headquarters. since its inception, manifesta has fostered and promoted the dialogue and exchange between art and society, encouraging the production of new creative experiences together with local communities according to multidisciplinary approaches. at the end of the biennial, the works of wu ming give up place to the set design conceived for the theatre by maestro mario nanni. under the same arch from which garibaldi delivered his first speech, once landed on palermo, mario nanni tells and reads his poems of light to students and designers. he moves, he follows the passing of the day and the path of the sun: sketches, notes, coffee and a cannolo, whose white delicacy stands out in the light of the decorative n55, suspended on the work table. how not to taste an arancina being pushed to cravings by the bamboo led? the master returns to talk to the boys sitting in the stalls. finally a glass of wine sitting comfortably in the poltronapoltrona, to the warm light of the da ma colonna. in the niches, the Viabizzuno lighting fixtures, with the best colour rendering index, light up the pompeian red of the stages, background of elegant compositions from the caravaggio contrasts of sicilian fruits and vegetables in season. thanks to a cri (color render index) equal to 98, an index r9 equal to 98 and a color saturation index rg 103, color is the main actor. the warm light of mon amour inflame the yellow of a cedar: seems to have been drawn by gauguin! the 3000K of the lanterna n55 transforms the red of the pepper in a fauve brushstroke. a un litro di luce shows the roughness of sun-dried olives. a maria led enhances the chromatic variations of the regal pomegranate. evening has come and a thin full moon rises from the hands of the maestro until he reached the serious face of garibaldi, painted on the vault arch. you light up and breathe, the kind old theater. reminds us that such beauty comes from civilization and culture: so that it is not destroyed by ignorance and barbarism, should be enlightened and handed down with persevering passion.
