a surrounding wall and two big firs placed at the side of the entrance gate characterize the monumental and at the same time domestic shape of villa guastavillani, historic building on the foothills of bologna. built starting from 1575 according to the project of the roman architect mascarino, the villa is featured by a ‘t’ plant and by a big volume, with an indoor walkable floor area of over 5.000 sq for high professional training of managers and executives. the surroundings is made of a park with a over 18.000 sq: a setting that encloses the villa and enriches it while giving room to it and allowing it to stand out harmoniously on the hillside horizon. history, tradition and technology co-exist in a natural setting of exceptional beauty only a few kilometers from the historic center of bologna: by the will of alma graduate school the park of the villa has been enriched by new light fittings, which help to make the atmosphere of the campus even more magical and warmer. the aim was to create a path open to welcome, events and periodical meetings, but also to meditation and to the charm of contemplation that enhances the daily study. the light design differs depending on the area and the requirements of use: the welcoming light of the lanterna massima parete, the precise and functional one of the cubo paletto along the driveway, the magic glare of the lucciola in the green and the precision of the light beams coming from the poles cubo, the silent presence of the sentiero di vals poles that surround the walls in the backyard and the discreet presence of the concrete along the paths, as house keepers, are just a few protagonists of the light design. light slopes down in the green giving itself to it by creating a magic scenary, fabulous and highly enjoyable at the same time. the green space is divided in several points by the ‘linfinito’ benches, different lengths seats, but endlessly extensible, conceived as meditation places from where to observe the urban landscape below in infinite positions. flowering shrubs and foliage green are punctuated by the glow of lucciola, flexuous stems in carbon fiber that mount small white leds with a transparent diffuser. the effect is that of a picturesque forest of fireflies that pop up in the evening and move to the passage of the wind, creating a fairytale atmosphere. the paths that leads to the entrance of the building, the staircase that rises through the park to the villa and pedestrian paths in the green light up thanks to the concrete and cubo paletto light fittings. a lighting that tends to highlight details, paths and old presences to look at with different eyes. the concrete that mark the path’s borders by little islands of light grazing to the ground that lead the visitor steps, while the cubo paletto unveil the corner and green niches with a more diffuse light, aside from revealing, by softening them, the steps of the outdoor external stairway. the pre-existing stone benches obtain new life thanks to the diffuse light of the bacchetta magica diffused beneath the seats, a light which unveils, goes along and invites to rest. the lanterna massima parete ordered like a frame of some entrances remind of the old city lanterns which, placed at the corners of buildings, didn’t just illuminate, but decorated the public space by creating a warm, delicate and welcoming atmosphere.
