the studio of architect giovanni fattori was responsible for the renovation of the villa of an old farm building, now become a prestigious house inside the urban center of vicenza.
the building allows to read the changes occurred over time, keeping at the same time the historical elements that were typical of the facades of previous ages: plugged windows, ledges, columns, arches and portals. the studio so worked both in respect of the existing parts, inserting a few and calibrated inner partitions made of glass and plaster, and with sharper interventions, with structures made of iron and laminar wood.
given the client’s requirements, who wanted an easy-to-use space where materials create a cozy atmosphere, the old walls has been renovated with great attention and goes along with the oiled oak wood surfaces and the natural stones covering with scratched finish. the natural light is first absorbed and moulded by rough natural materials then it is reflected and exalted by the whiteness of the smooth surfaces inserted with the renovation. moreover, at night, the project gets a new life thanks to the great use of artificial light, obtained with c2, c3 profiles and m1 spotlights that exalt the spaces geometry.
the living area covers all the first span at ground floor and is marked by the succession of views, placed on three sides towads the surrounding park.
the kitchen, the studio and the bathroom develop along with the staircase against the inner span taking advantage from the zenith light that comes down from the roof and illuminates the first historical façade of the building. at first floor, the night area allows an immediate undestanding of the four little lodges with balaustrade that characterizes the last exterior façade; this area has also a special wood frame made of truss and beams.
at the same floor there are also the other rooms, where the white volume of the last floor with mansard inserts itself.
to not modify the historical walls, the light fittings have been placed on the floor while the vertical electrical wirings have all been made on the outside of the building.
