la piazza di brunico
place:brunico bolzano, italia
project:albert willeit
lighting project:leitner sas, Viabizzuno
ever since it was founded, around the year 1250, the city of brunico has never had a proper “piazza”, a meeting place for its citizens: over the centuries, this function has been fulfilled by the main street and the graben. the new piazza, the real one, in front of the town hall, today gives the impression of being rather distant from the town centre: for this reason, the aim of the project was to redirect the citizens' evening stroll and their various activities, creating a link between the graben, the town hall piazza, and its main entrance. oxidised supporting posts 5 m high and 8 cm in diameter arch over the entire route: on them are etched words by the brunico poet norbert c. kaser, who died in 1978, a mere 31 years old.
