in the heart of the marches the claudi foundation has renovated the claudi palace, converting it into the centre of activities focused on preserving and promoting the pictorial works of anna claudi and the poetic works of claudio claudi, and on transforming it into a lively site of cultural events. the core idea of the project was to conceive the new building as a showcase for activities organised by the foundation, characterising it with materials and technologies that are not typical of historical buildings in order to openly declare its autonomy without renouncing the dialogue with the historical memoires of the family tradition. the new building stretches over two levels. the ground floor comprises the entrance with the reception hall and steel stairs leading to the teaching hall on the top floor, which provides access to the ancient cellars of the building that have now been designed as the site of temporary exhibitions. these spaces have been revisited to create neutral settings with brickwork walls have been plastered, while homogeneous cement flooring has been the choice for all the rooms. the roof is partly flat and forms the terrace of the first floor of the building. a pitch has been created for the remaining portion with a cor-ten structure supported by a large steel beam anchored to the lateral walls made of reinforced concrete. a large full length glass wall divided by vertical uprights has been installed under this beam. It captures and spreads the beautiful northern light and allows to enjoy the scenic view of the valley from inside. from outside it especially acts as a window for the foundation's activities. a scenic lift placed in a concealed position to avoid impairing the façade of the palace links the various levels and also connects the existing palace and the new building. lighting is studied to characterise the environments. the lenticchia lamp has been the choice for rooms on the second floor. with its handmade blown glass it crowns the ceiling roses like an echo of ancient chandeliers that have been lost in the course of time. wall mosaics, instead, highlight the pictorial wall decorations created by anna claudi. tracks with obiettivo spotlights have been used in all environments intended for temporary exhibitions, thus creating adjustable lighting that is flexible and versatile to meet the needs of the foundation, with high chromatic performance to spotlight the displayed works. elements with a powerful evocative value, such as the lucciola o lanterna, have also been placed in environments dedicated to the poet claudio claudi, or the lanterna massima parete installed at the external corner in a diagonal position to recall the public lighting of towns. the large display unit effect has been obtained in the rooms of the new building by using the ceiling mounted m6 lights that enhance the transparencies of the steel stairs and the recessed floor-mounted m444 to create cones of light on the columns. on the side, fluorescent lighting is built into the lower part of the walls by using the 094 profile, while the reception desk is lighted by the square system.
