on the occasion of the 62nd venice film festival, the venice biennial exhibition presented the projects which reached the final of the international competition to design the new film festival venue. Viabizzuno provided the lighting for the plastic models, starting from the premise that architecture draws life from its shadows and this must emerge also from its instruments of analysis and design. the models are architectural studies, ideas taking shape, matter illustrating the project; they require lighting which makes them realistic, lighting able to simulate the movement and colours of sunlight on the façades. the lighting must be able to enhance shadows, and it must be capable of being moved and manipulated so as to modify the shadows on the corners of volumes. this is the opportunity for creating a light tailored for the occasion. and so is born ‘si gira’, (meaning ‘action’, the film director’s command par excellence). a flexible lighting fixture, easily positioned by means of its sucker attachment: the author decides personally where to install it, without violating the exhibition space. its light, precise and circumscribed, gives exactly-defined shadows to the model, effective and realistic; the eye of the visitor rests on a piece of micro-architecture. the need to simulate the sun envisages a roto-translatory movement of the lighting fixture and variations in the colour of the light beam. the two 7w led, which by virtue of their reduced dimensions are perfectly integrated inside the slender section of the lamp, emit a light which can vary from 2,700 to 6,000 k simulating the solar spectrum; and moreover, dedicated software makes it possible to modulate the colour of the light from dawn to dusk over a time lapse of three minutes. the choice of a led as a light source was based on its characteristics of long life and low running temperature. touch ‘si gira’ to vary the lighting around the architectural models, making it move like the light of the sun. the lights go on at the new venice film festival : take one… lights… action… si gira!
