a close relationship with the land and with local craftsmen is one of bottega veneta's distinctive features.; this is confirmed by the recent renovation works carried out at villa schroeder-da porto in montebello vicentino, the brand's new atelier. the villa, from 2013 the head office of the company established in 1966, is surrounded by a 55,000 m2 park, which has been preserved and enhanced by using particular materials, certified plants and a lighting system specially designed by Viabizzuno. indeed, in order to preserve the landscape, the outdoor lighting has been studied to be as discreet as possible, with the choice of a light fitting, tsukimiso, that can be completely concealed in the ground during the day and come into play only at sunset. moreover, the rhythmic installation of the light fitting concrete along the avenues guides the steps of both employees and visitors to the entrance of the villa. since their creation in medieval times, the layout of premises where handcrafting activities are carried out has undergone changes based on specific processing requirements. this is still the case today at the bottega veneta atelier in montebello vicentino, the work place of master craftsmen where the next generation is trained. with this goal in mind, the site has been designed as an extraordinary work place. the large perimeter windows are studied for rooms to be bathed in sunshine during the day, since sunlight is the leading partner of the daily creative process based on ancient gestures and precious materials. sunshine merges with artificial lighting that is artfully modulated by exploiting light sources, colour temperatures and energy saving devices as required by the various areas. this is a profession one acquires by imitation with repeated adjustments; hence, Viabizzuno's light becomes an accomplice in the process of handing down technical know-how and handcrafting expertise. the quality of light is placed at the service of the eyes and hands of master craftsmen, and values such as colour rendering index and R9 have been specially studied to ensure excellent performance. as a matter of fact, the building has been awarded the prestigious american ‘leed platinum’ certification, which further spotlights the great attention paid by the maison to a project focused on preserving the environment and ensuring the wellbeing of people. the study of punctual light merges with that of environmental lighting conceived for exhibition halls where the narration of the company's history, creativity and italian identity is presented as a museum exhibition charged with insight and research, a place where discrete, narrative lights guide our steps while relating the unfolding future. hence, an exceptional convergence occurs in every room of the atelier - technology and research on lighting design are placed at the service of craftsmanship, which is underpinned by ancient gestures and deep passion.
