Texman offices
place:aalborg, danmark
project:cubo architects
buyer:texman
lighting project:b&b interior aps
the concept at the basis of the texman building sprang directly from the clients' wish to include all functions in one large office space. the idea was to create an atmosphere of work continually in progress - productive yet at the same time pleasant: the various departments are defined by different levels, but colleagues can communicate by means of visual contact at all times. this encourages greater participation in the work in progress, a type of cohesion typical of group collaboration, as though workshops took place in the texman offices every day. the varied levels, inner courtyards, facing parts and connecting corridors characterise the space and confer great flexibility: and the lighting has to integrate with this atmosphere. lighting has been designed to vary with the varying functional requirements, while at the same time defining the specific differences of the varying levels. above the desks 094 have been positioned along slits, so that the right light can be created at every single work station even if the furniture and arrangement differ: the flexibility which characterises this lighting system is ideally suited to an open space of these dimensions. the same slit appears vertically, in the full-height volumes, as a graphic sign indicating the routes through various levels and at the same time emphasising the vertical character of the building in its full-height space. a number of net recessed lighting fixtures have also been used, their clean lines outlining the ceilings and accompanying the architectural composition of the 094 system. in correspondence with the large halls which figure as bright inner courtyards, xxx suspended lights hang from the ceiling; their imposing size means that they are not lost in this space; on the contrary, they enhance it and draw the visitor's gaze from the highest ceiling to the flooring of the ground floor, making it possible to appreciate the varied levels and their functional characteristics, chief among which is the display of clothing produced by the texman company. this entire interior layout corresponds to a curvilinear exterior characterised by long narrow windows: large glass surfaces which give rise to an indoor “conversation” between artificial lighting and natural light.
