lighting project:parisotto + formenton architetti, Viabizzuno
inside the terme di saturnia spa, architects parisotto and formenton have undertaken alterations to improve the layout, connecting the relaxation area with those dedicated to therapy and activities associated with the spa water. the 50 metres separating the spa reception from the area dedicated to treatment and massage now take the form of an art installation, displaying work by the german artist, herbert hamak, a concentrated sequence made of colours and silences, the subjects of lighting and the substance of art. hamak's geometric forms, generated ad hoc and produced with skilfully blended pigments and resins, are the art of imagination and contemplation, invoking the tranquillity stimulated by the lighting.
shades graduating from lilac to blue, which guide spa visitors gradually through the various areas designated by these colours, add to the lighting sensations inspired by the brilliant hues of the artist's work.
from the lilac reception area, visitors pass through the violet massage area before reaching the blue and pale green of the therapy area and pool, an emotive sequence, which permeates different environments, enhancing each individual space.
the lighting and scenery equipment, installed with the cooperation of Viabizzuno, uses beams of light to emphasise the subtle transition from one section to another. the horizontals intersect with the verticals, accentuating the structural and architectural elements that divide up the overall length, directing attention on the lighting, the key element of a project between art and fit-out.
the treatment of material and lighting is also the key element in the design of the spa pool area, whose roof is dotted with multiple fully recessed light fittings that can make the ceiling appear similar to a celestial vault, Viabizzuno's cono infinito fittings, calibrated points of light in narrow beams, in which the light source is impossible to see but remains simply an opening with a suggestion of the light emerging from it. between the golden beams of light from the cono fittings is the campana brembana fitting, a dome of light set in the ceiling that, thanks to its wiring system is able to continue the play of light and colours that began with the route leading from reception. in this area, so harmoniously designed in contact with the water, the lighting no longer produces beams but soft diffuse colour effects that can be reflected in the pool and submerged in it.
