casa sul lago
place:desenzano, brescia

lighting project:marco savorelli, Viabizzuno
the outstanding location, in the town centre, very close to lake garda, together with the structure of the mansard, have made it possible to exploit to the full the living space, discarding the concept of a container in favour of new visual perceptions. the structure made possible the creation of numerous sequences of horizontal planes from which can be seen ever-changing glimpses of the surrounding landscape; the use of reflecting or transparent elements allows a complete overview of the surroundings from any angle. all these elements contribute to make the best possible use of the superimposition of floors which, although maintaining each one a particular functional character, when linked together create a single living space, harmonious and enveloping. the area devoted to the bathroom is bordered by transparent wings, making it visible from any viewpoint, while remaining completely separate from the surrounding spaces. the bath lined with split black slate, and the washbasin which makes use of a concrete structure but is likewise lined with stone, look to have sprung from the material, pure linear masses coming from the quarrying of the stone itself. the washbasin, for instance, is structurally significant yet seems to float in the air, suspended and detached from the very material from which it is made. in the entrance area of the house there is a space devoted to complete relaxation, where the ceiling has been replaced by a transparent surface which makes it possible to lose altogether the concept of space and reach a higher plane, immersed in the greenery of the glasshouse and enveloped by natural light which enters without meeting any impediment. so is born a living space which eschews the concept of container in favour of a new concept: that of a continuous open space, delimited by horizontal planes and emphasised by the inspired use of lighting which enhances the features of all the sequences.
