the project for the architectural refurbishment of the parish centre began with the observation of the agricultural context that hosts it, the pre-existing historical and urban elements and the function of the spaces as a place for the community to meet. first of all, the town planning regulations were respected: the new building adapts to the bending pedestrian path, architecturally moulded like an embrace around a green area. it protects parishioners from the street while revealing the functions it promotes. the visitor, walking towards the entrance, is guided by a pathway with a chromatically cadenced movement that creates emphasis: this overcomes the static idea generated by a curtain wall and also the sense of exclusion which is typical of a circle, despite the project being based on a circular form. the new structure is arranged on a semicircular plan, housing a single-storey building divided into 2 blocks which are joined by the main entrance, covered by a reinforced concrete slab. all the rooms are arranged and divided radially, distributed along the perimeter of the plan and separated by a curved corridor. particular attention has been paid to the choice of construction materials and to the energetic optimisation of the structure. innovative choices have been made for the exterior, featuring an open, ventilated, double wall clad with a terracotta and multi-coloured majolica sunscreen, positioned vertically, from the historical impruneta terracotta district. these screen elements, with a section of 60x60 mm, have a smooth natural and enamelled surface finish obtained via extrusion. this design choice was dictated by the desire to further dissimulate the volume of the new building. led bacchetta magica fittings have been used to light the double wall, positioned between the impruneta terracotta and majolica cladding and the supporting wall behind, painted in an off-white shade. these fittings generate light which is diffused on the back of the sunscreen elements, making them 'emerge'. furthermore, in the entrance hallway c2 plafone tutta luce led fittings have been used so that the diffused light reflects on the white concrete slab, dilating its height. the white concrete slab of the hallway continues towards the inner yard to form the canopy. this is fitted with a series of cilindro pl 20 lights which, positioned to suit the radial arrangement of the building, light up spots and the sides of all the exits from the rooms inside that overlook the yard.
