Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella – established in 1221 and considered the oldest pharmacy in the world – is an italian company renowned worldwide for its perfumes, candles, liqueurs and ‘ancient preparations’. business is conducted to date in the heart of florence, where it all began. that very place, the frescoed sacristy of the historic headquarters in via della scala 16, is home to the ‘Annunciation II, after Fra Angelico’, a monumental work by the famous british artist David Hockney. hence a direct dialogue stems between a leading master of contemporary art and beato angelico, the protagonist of the major exhibition held in parallel at both Palazzo Strozzi and the Museum of San Marco. the event thus connects past and present, tradition and innovation in a single space, highlighting Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella’s mission of promoting the florentine heritage as a living and current asset.
lighting design enters this setting on tiptoe. clean and minimalist, traccia terra offers flexible positioning and clean formal lines. trentotto sagomatore draws out the geometric contours of Hockney’s work, highlighting the vivid colours, while ecomini diffuses its light beam, caressing the frescoed environment that surrounds the installation.
the exhibition held at Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella was jointly organised by gres art 671 and the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation.
