at the end of java-eiland in amsterdam stands an impressive transparent building with a distinctive ‘flatiron’ shape. this is the Jakarta Hotel, which was designed by studio SeArch in collaboration with Westcord Hotels. built on the pier where immigrants from indonesia used to arrive, the structure today reflects the historical link between the city and asia.
the exterior is made entirely of photovoltaic glass panels and anodised aluminium, and the building’s wooden structure is a model of sustainability as it is energy neutral and certified to the highest standards. at the heart of the hotel lies a subtropical garden which regulates the temperature and provides a social space for guests and visitors to enjoy.
therefore, particular attention was required in the design of the lighting to reduce consumption without compromising on maximum light quality. for this reason, n55 sospensione was used in the spacious restaurant and other common areas, with a special decorative glass designed specifically for this hotel.
in the sky bar, which boasts a panoramic view, sempre mia’s sleek profile enhances the building’s distinctive shape and defines the space by blending into the perimeter wooden structure.
the bedrooms, which are also dominated by soft wood tones, feature lighting solutions designed to create a cosy and intimate ambiance.
