In the historic halls of palazzo Jung and its monumental park in Palermo, the ‘museum of the present’ was created, dedicated to Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino and it was realised by Fondazione Falcone to promote the values of legality, civic commitment and social dialogue.
The core of the project consists of the exhibition area, in which objects, artworks, multimedia content and photographs narrate a piece of Italian and international history, illuminated by traccia terra with n55 spotlights, the Viabizzuno lighting solution designed by Marionanni that guarantees on the one hand maximum flexibility thanks to the transportability of the structure and the ease of adjusting the individual spotlights, on the other hand very high light quality with minimum energy consumption and very low damage factors.
The large ‘biblioteca blu’, a laboratory for the thinking and culture of legality, is crossed by catenaria di luce serpentine, the luminaire designed by master of architecture Peter Zumthor that draws playful and enchanting light paths.
Along the walls, structures of traccia sistema – a solution designed by Marionanni and Antonio Barbieri for Viabizzuno that combines light and furniture – display books and objects that can be freely enjoyed.
The vitality of the museum goes beyond the walls of palazzo Jung and pervades the garden, the city’s first design park aimed to give back to the community a publicly owned outdoor cultural space. Here, the large maxxi poppy stand out among the centuries-old trees and with their red colour draw attention to the civic commitment and memory that every citizen should help to preserve.
