Just a few kilometres from bologna, there is our Viabizzuno headquarters, a place of passion, technological research, commitment, creativity and meetings. Our work takes shape here and radiates out through a local production district into the light laboratories around the world.
The story begins at the entrance courtyard, which welcomes visitors and colleagues with a persimmon tree, a symbol of peace and resistance. Inside, the path winds its way through offices and technical laboratories: in the optical laboratory we study light, its intensity and, above all, its quality; the photogoniometer measures the characteristics of the light beam with mathematical precision and returns exact photometric curves.
In the 25° and 35°C chambers we test the reaction of our products under different climatic conditions to ensure that all the parameters of the world’s leading certifications are met. In the electromagnetic compatibility laboratory we analyse and optimise the side effects of electromagnetic interference between our products and all other devices present in an environment. In the IP and IK laboratory we test the resistance of the lamps to water, dust and shocks. The decision to invest in the construction of these spaces has allowed us not only to speed up the manufacturing processes of our products, but also to have greater control over the design and real-time feedback on any necessary modifications.
Thanks to continuous research and numerous patents, we are internationally recognised for our quality products and unique sustainability-oriented systems, which have also been developed through well-established partnerships with world-renowned architects and designers.
The path culminates in the laboratory inbentivoglio, a space for welcoming, listening, training and design. Here, the pitched ceiling characteristic of industrial buildings dialogues both with more architectural lighting solutions – such as tracks designed to be integrated into
the building – and with lamps with a strong aesthetic research and craftsmanship. The multifaceted soul of Viabizzuno is reflected in this place.
It is an area dedicated to the construction and presentation of samples and prototypes, but also a room for conferences and projections.
On the occasion of our 30th birthday we screened and commented with giovanna calvenzi ‘l’infinito è là in fondo’ by stefano santamato, a film dedicated to the human and professional career of gabriele basilico, the internationally renowned master of photography.
Outdoor lights accompany us as we move from one building to the next. Our collection of poles to light up large open spaces, solid and imposing in their materiality, complements the almost intangible lightness of lucciola, which in its different heights is scattered in the bamboo flowerbed.
A wooden staircase, along which run light solutions integrated into the architecture, leads to the aulascuola: dedicated to internal training and to light workshops for designers and clients, it is a space characterised by glass-topped desks containing objects, products and samples that tell the story of our brand. A few more steps and you reach the place where the Viabizzuno experience transcends the project and embraces the culture of food and hospitality. Walking on the long balcony overlooking the internal production area – from the top of which you can view the six assembly islands dedicated to our proudly made in Italy products – you arrive at the extensive design office, a team of professionals with different backgrounds where Viabizzuno projects come to life, starting with listening and looking for integration with natural light.
Listening first. Listening and continuous dialogue with designers and clients allow us to find ideal and customised lighting solutions, from residential to retail, from museum to offices, for interiors and exteriors of all sizes.
Light in motion
Natural light moves, it changes intensity and colour rendering. It is never the same. Artificial light is inspired by this and its movement is understood as the possibility of having light that interacts with those who live in the space. This is the concept behind Viabizzuno’s battery-operated portable light fittings: they move with people, they are adjustable and dimmable.
Their design is aimed to meet functionals, as well as sensory and emotional needs.
Lanterna n55 and torcia n55 – designed by Marionanni for Viabizzuno – present the highest level of customisation: thanks to the bayonet fastening system of sistema n55, it is possible to customise the light beam by changing the diffuser from technical to classic or decorative, also varying the light intensity through the sliding dimmer. Spessorina portatile, designed by claudio silvestrin and Marionanni, has a coppered steel body with clean lines and a 22 carat gold heart that generates a soft and elegant beam of light. Bulletta, designed by Mariano Zanoni, is the latest addition to Viabizzuno’s family of battery-operated lamps and allows maximum portability not only because of its size, but also because the diffuser can be removed from the body of the lamp to obtain an additional light solution. Essentiality and materiality meet technology and the highest quality of light in lanterna tirolese, designed by john pawson and originally created for the exterior of a stone villa in the mountains of south tyrol. Manondovevamovedercipiù, designed by Marionanni, is the perfect synthesis of technology, craftsmanship and aesthetic research: made of oxidised aluminium, it features a cylindrical body covered in leather, while the elegant circular head provides delicate accent lighting, perfect for the intimacy of a dinner.

The principles of quality, elegance and harmony guide thinking toward the creation of unique products conceived to meet precise design requirements.
This is the case with barra d’oro and officina Zumthor, design by master of architecture Peter Zumthor, to provide professional, adjustable and comfortable lighting for the spaces of his atelier. Candela di Vals, also designed by the swiss master, was conceived for st. Benedict church and the Vals therme, places to bring a light that encourages meditation and contemplation.
Coppibartali, designed by Marionanni, was created for an overseas project for which to produce and ship a large chandelier. The solution?
The bicycle chain! the glass cylinders are joined by a patented Viabizzuno chain system that allows the geometry of the lamp to be customized, including the possibility to wrap it around itself, minimizing the space it takes up.
Noble and bright, da ma was designed by David Chipperfield and Marionanni, originally conceived for an exclusive fashion boutique carried out by David Chipperfield Architects. It is now one of the most iconic lamps in the Viabizzuno collection.
Royal chandelier, designed by David Chipperfield and Marionanni, was created for the luxury hotel café royal in London. The refined finishes merge with the brilliance of crystal and the softness of sandblasted glass to create warm lighting effects.
Sul sole va, designed by Neri&Hu for Sulwhasoo’s seoul flagship store, take their inspiration from the welcoming light of the traditional asian lantern. The combination of glass, leather and brass make them the materialization of attention to detail, formal research, and technical expertise.
Tisoffio, designed by french studio Cigüe, was created for the interiors of the japanese brand % arabica’s first New York coffee shop. The high technology of Viabizzuno is combined with Cigüe’s iconic design through the skillful use of materials and the intricate workmanship of tempered glass, whose shape recalls that of coffee roasters.
