Ciguë

light combines mystery and certainty

it almost vanishes
and leaves us
to join its white dots in
the dark

then it breaks through again
and floods
elongating every obstacle with a dark train

it reddens the eyelids
and crosses
and glistens on the curves
of salty lashes,
dazzled
by new life

it reveals surfaces
making them vibrate
and each witness resonates in response

seen from outside, it crosses space
pierces the clouds
streaks the sky
filters down to the ground and organizes territories and habitats
with drawings of its shadows

shadows that are blurred or sharp, depending on
the bodies it meets, their formation,
the setting, the weather
and so many illusions, reflections, diffusions, diffractions
that their contours become smudged
revealing their shapes

the sun then withdraws
and the cities have to live life in the dark and mimic the phenomena observed
with clever tricks

the dark background fades away and the setting becomes
a world

an avenue shines with fluorescent light a viaduct of sodium

oil lamp and streetlamp
flashing light and stroboscope
chasing,
cut-outs, spectra and beams
decorate the Earth by night
