on the top floor of a residential skyscraper in the heart of Shanghai, there is a penthouse where contemporary, nature and family warmth intertwine. The young owners, while being engaged in business matters on a daily basis, possess an open social nature and a distinct passion for collecting. and on this they based the design of their House, entrusted to the Kwsd Studio, which in designing residential spaces constantly seeks an elegant and sophisticated spatial structure, as well as the exploration of the relationship between time, living scale, materials and people. the design embodies a blend of timeless classics and customisations that resonate with real-life experiences, transcending trends. like most residential high-rises, the duplex offers an excellent view of the city from the rooms, but lacks the warmth and colour of being close to nature. the main objective was to close the original double-height living area facing south and instead create a raised area on the north side of the entrance, consisting of a courtyard with a spiral staircase and a tree. achieving a comfortable spatial scale has become a significant challenge in the design process, through precise control of spatial proportions, hierarchy, materials and lighting, improving visual and tactile comfort. upon entering the House, you can immediately perceives the soothing natural tones and breathes in deeply the precious scent of nature. the lighting effect enveloping the upper part is intended to define the boundaries of the courtyard and make the space look even more gentle and natural. in this area you can breath the magical stillness of gardens: the gentle light of spessorina portatile is reflected in the water surrounding the tree, while the room is enveloped in the gentle light of m1 micro. the combination of artworks, wood finishes and stone has created a happy blend of delicacy, warmth and softness. under daylight by day and artificial light by night, the spaces offer a true sensory experience, delineating a pure and authentic living space. in the large living room open to the city, the atmosphere is calm, lulled by the soft colours of the furnishings, which are set among fine finishes.
the lighting follows the volumes of the architecture: n55 parete con braccio, with its longilinear presence and ajp01 glass marks the passage, while microtraccia with trentotto spotlights discreetly illuminates the room from above. in the large room entirely clad in wood, the dialogue between inside and outside takes place thanks to light: at night, the multi-coloured lights of the city enter the living dimension through the glass wall and meet the elegant reflections of the royal incasso. the enveloping sunlight and elegant light of sole alternate in the bedroom, enhancing the natural finishes and refined furnishings. Viabizzuno ’s overall architectural lighting and the careful selection of both more technical and decorative luminaires further enhance the texture and artistic sense of the space. from early morning to dusk, the sunlight dances within the building, painting the scenes. as evening falls, the interior lighting and the external night scenery gradually create another emotional ambience.
