Located within the ecological villas district along the western shore of Yangcheng lake in Suzhou, China, this residence expresses the designers’ vision of creating a comfortable space infused with nature and rich in emotional connections.
The architecture, organised as a complex of courtyards, connects the north and south wings via lifts and stairs. Designed for a chinese art enthusiast, the space harmonises the client’s lively personality and artistic sensibility with the practical needs of a multigenerational living.
The southern wing of the building is dedicated to the double-height living area dedicated to the family and complemented by a coffee lounge illuminated by sempre mia, whose sandblasted glass diffusers spread the light gracefully and elegantly, making the space enchanting and welcoming. The northern section includes a kitchen that binds the chinese and western styles, and a circular dining area crowned by the majestic royal chandelier. The island counter, adapted to the family’s noodle-making traditions, fosters a convivial atmosphere, filled with the warmth of shared meals.
A soft palette of beige and earth tones interacts with luxurious greenery through full-height glazing. The double-height space is characterised by iconic furnishings illuminated by n55 terra, whose double emission allows direct light with technical optics and diffused light with mk02 decorative glass. At a height of six metres, the sculptural coppibartali 72 modules pendant stands out in the architectural volume of the living room. Echoing Antoni Gaudí’s philosophy that ‘the straight line belongs to man, the curved line to god’, the light installation was customised on site: the luminaire was imagined as a dramatic curved line suspended in the void. This artistic intervention not only confers a dynamic elegance to the space, but also symbolises the family’s journey towards an infinitely beautiful future; a collaborative triumph achieved through the creative synergy between customers and designers.
In the master bedroom, the dialogue between outside and inside thanks to the large glass window continues, as does the dialogue between architectural lines and furnishing accessories: suspended in the centre of the room, c2 anelli lightly illuminates the space. The suspension lamp va, positioned above the bedside table, is the synthesis of the formal elegance distinctive of Neri&Hu – the chinese architecture studio that designed it – and the quality of made in Italy Viabizzuno. In front of the bed, in the intimate corner dedicated to reading, minima terra with lensoptica illuminates the armchair, enhancing its materic quality and finish.
