De Nederlandsche Bank is undergoing an extraordinary transformation.
the iconic building on frederiksplein in amsterdam, which for decades symbolised the secrecy of the financial authority, has evolved into a place of openness, transparency and connection, and the new lighting design has played a central role not only aesthetically, but also symbolically and technically. it was developed on the basis of the DNB’s core values of reliability, sustainability and transparency. the first room on the ground floor, which is far more than merely a lobby, is defined by a double height that can accommodate the lucus, the Viabizzuno lighting solution usually conceived for outdoors, but which finds a meaningful place in this interior.
across the ceiling run three rows of dozens of amP with lensoptica, a system offering extremely high lighting performance with very low energy consumption. this configuration makes the building’s layered structure legible and welcoming even after sunset. sustainable, efficient and low-maintenance – the lighting design helps to make the building future-proof, enabling it to fulfil its institutional role in a contemporary way. what was once a closed fortress now becomes an open house, where light literally and figuratively creates space for encounters, reflection and trust.
